Hair Grooming Tips

Your hair. Your do. Women put a ton of emphasis on what they have on top and for good reason. They know it, and you should too.

Your hair is one of the first things a person notices about you, and can either greatly enhance or take away from your overall appearance.

In fact, your hair is so important that it can serve to really distract from any minor deficiencies you may have elsewhere.

Now, when it comes to women's hair, there is an entire world of products and guides out there.

For your average guy who just wants a great head of hair, it's a little overwhelming.

Thus, in this article we are going to hit you with what we consider to be some of the most important tips when it comes to your hair grooming.

Tip #1 Know How to Use Your Hair Product

Hair clay, gels, waxes, muds, pastes, creams, sprays and more. They are not the same! They are used for different purposes, and further more, you should apply them at different times.

Damp Hair

Pastes, waxes, hairsprays and clays should only be applied to thoroughly dry hair.

Whereas you want to use gels and creams in damp, towel-dried hair.

Anytime you apply a product to your hair, squirt or drop a small amount of product into your index finger and rub it together into the palms of your hands until everything is even.

Then, apply it to your hair starting from the roots, going outwards. You want the product to be distributed evenly.

Tip #2 Don't Shampoo Every Day

There should be a disclaimer attached to this tip, as this will apply to most men.

If you apply a lot of product to your hair every day, and your hair is very fine and gets oily very easy then it's probably a good idea to run a little bit of shampoo in your hair every night.

However, for most men out there this will not be necessary. Shampooing every other day or every three days is A-OK.

You see, when you shampoo your hair you are stripping your hair of all it's natural oils and drying it out, so you really don't need to do it every day.

That said, you should make it a habit to rinse out your hair thoroughly every day with water, especially to remove any product.

Tip #3 Use Conditioner Every Day

In the prior tip we warned you that it's not necessary and even harmful to shampoo your hair every day.

Well, you may ask, what about conditioning? Do it, daily. Conditioning your hair doesn't strip it of any oils.

What it does is help coat your hair something like a lubricant, which leaves your hair with a little bit of a shine, more smooth and less prone to getting tangled and getting all over the place.

You don't need any fancy treatments here, just grab a bottle of a decent leave-in conditioner and apply after you rinse out your hair at night and you will be good to go for the next day.

Tip #4 Don't Rub Your Hair Dry With a Towel

To Manscape Or Not, That is the Question

Don't beat yourself up too bad if you do this, as nearly every guy does, but this can be incredibly damaging to your hair, especially if you have already been shampooing every day.

When your hair is wet it is more susceptible to damage, and when you combine that with rough towel drying, it's no wonder most guys soon find strands of hair all over the place afterwards!

Instead, what you can do is pat or blot your hair until it is damp with a towel. One that is extra-absorbent is even better.

Some guys have found that using a spare t-shirt works well.

Yes, it will probably take a little bit longer to dry, but when it comes to hair you want to be a little extra gentle as you don't want to lose it.

If you are in a hurry you can try blow-drying it, but again, the heat from the blow-dryer will cause damage. Apply a leave-in conditioner with glycerin for further protection.

Tip #5 Use Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo?!

Dry shampoo absorbs oils on your hair and scalp on days that you don't shampoo in the shower.

Dry shampoo is a godsend for men who don't want to shampoo their hair everyday (to keep it looking great), but who also workout or sweat daily.

As stated before, after a day or so oil will build up in your hair, and if you aren't shampooing, it may start to look oily and just overall disgusting.

Enter dry shampoo.

This stuff (certain brands are better for different colored hair) keeps your hair deodorized, fresh and clean throughout the entire day.

Applying it is simple; simply sprinkle a little bit onto your hands when your hair is still damp (after blotting), then work it into your hair and leave in. Easy!

So, there you have it! Just follow these five easy to follow tips to help keep your hair looking nice all day, every day!
