When it comes to pomades, there are a lot of brands out there.
American Crew, Cremo, Suavecito, Uppercut, Layrite. And of course, Old Spice.
While all of these brands have great options to choose from, you probably prefer some of them over others.
If your favorite brand is Old Spice and you’re looking to try their pomade, then there are quite a few things you need to know about the brand’s pomades.
So, in this article, I set out to explain how good Old Spice pomades are in holding your hair, the kind of quality you can expect, how they smell like, and the likely pros and cons you’ll see when using them.
Let’s dive into the details:
Is Old Spice Pomade GOod?
When it comes to various hair products, you want to ensure you are purchasing something that works effectively.
That is perhaps the reason for exploring today’s topic, “Is old spice pomade good?”
The answer depends on a few different categories. Let’s take a look at the 4 main factors to consider when using Old Spice pomade for your hair.
How Well Does the Pomade Hold My Hairstyle in Place?
The pomade will keep hair in place securely with a medium hold.
A medium hold will be strong enough to prevent your hair from shifting during the day, yet soft enough to be comfortable and easy to run your fingers through.
What Type of Finish Does the Pomade Leave On My Hair?
The pomade is formulated with a no-shine finish. This means you will not have to worry about a “greasy” look.
Your hair will effortlessly stay in place and look fresh all day long. This is especially important for those whose scalp produces excess oil.
What Does the Pomade Smell Like?
This pomade has a masculine scent and will not smell too sweet or fruity.
Man men are discouraged from trying hair styling products with the concern they will be too feminine smelling.
However, that is not the case with this pomade formulated for men.
What Kind of Quality Can I Expect with this Hair Pomade?
The quality of at-home styling products is typically sub-par.
The reality is most hair products simply do not hold the way you want them to, at least not for hours on end.
According to real reviews of men who have used the product, the pomade does hold up and keeps hair in place.
The results of this pomade are similar if not equivalent to those of barbershop quality.
Can You Wash It Out Easily?
Aside from being easy to apply, you can also easily wash it out. Some users also noted that it doesn’t leave residue in their hair.
It would have been more difficult to use overall if it wasn’t easy to take it out of your hair when you wanted. You also don’t waste time since you don’t spend too much time trying to wash.
Another important thing is the following:
Does Old Spice Pomade Have Alcohol?
Yes, it has alcohol. Here is a full list of ingredients:
Water/Eau, Mineral Oil/Huile Minerale, Petrolatum, PVP, Propylene Glycol, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax/Cire De Carnauba, Polyglyceryl-3 Dicitrate/Stearate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Fragrance/Parfum, Paraffin, Ceteareth-25, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Lanolin Wax/Cire De Lanoline, Aminomethyl Propanol, Dmdm Hydantoin, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Methylparaben, Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline, Propylparaben, PEG-90M, Synthetic Wax, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Polyethylene, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer.
As you can see, as bolded above, it does contain cetyl alcohol. But is this a safe type of alcohol to have in your hair products?
There is nothing wrong with cetyl alcohol, per se. In fact, it is considered safe and non-toxic for the hair.
This is because it doesn’t dry out hair or cause irritation, which is why the FDA permitted it in the first place.
Personally, however, I don’t like seeing any form of alcohol in a product I use, whether for skincare or haircare.
