The rebranding and resurgence of the Old Spice brand are inspirational.

And thanks to their quality products and unique marketing they are gaining a justified and ever growing market share.

So you may find yourself with several versions of their deodorant products on your dressing table, and wonder if they ever expire.

Before Opening

Well, according to their parent company’s website*, all Old Spice deodorant products are good for up to 3 years, if stored properly, after their manufacture date.

That’s not three years after you put it on your shelf, but from when it was manufactured.

You can check the manufacture date by using a handy website called checkfresh.com and entering the batch code found on the package.

After Opening

Once you’ve opened the pack and started to use it that drops down to 6 to 12 months.

However, that doesn’t mean that the deodorant becomes dangerous to use, just that it will probably lose its signature fragrance over time.

Use the ‘sniff test’ and make sure that it still smells like it did when you bought it.

Tips for Buying Old Spice Deodorants

Take Not of Expiry Dates

If your deodorant, and any other grooming products, have expired dates printed on them, then they can certainly expire.

So, it’s your job to monitor the date and make sure you don’t use the product past the expiry date. There is a reason manufacturer added it in the first place.

Buy Another One

Don’t hesitate to buy another deodorant. If your old one is nearing its expiry date or has expired, then it’s better to buy another one.

I’ll recommend not wondering if you can use it or not.

The fact that the manufacturer has stated that the deodorant is good for 3 years means it probably won’t be effective again after that time elapse.

Use Reputable Sources

Always buy your deodorants from reputable sources.

Not only will you be buying at reasonable prices, you’ll also be able to avoid buying expired ones or even counterfeits.

You are likely to also get from newly stocked ones too, which gives you a longer time between the time you’re buying and the expiry date.

I can’t imagine some stores carrying deodorant for months before they are sold.

Signs to Look for

Indications that your deodorant is nearing, or past, the end of its useful life are a change in its composition, becoming dry and difficult to apply, and not smelling like it did when you first opened it.

Does it look, smell and work like it used to?

If the answer to all 3 is yes, you can still use it. But probably best to start shopping for a new one.

Technically deodorant doesn’t expire, but it may change over time.

Certainly, after it has been opened and in use for over 12 months, you may notice that the signature scent is no longer there.

This could also be an indication that the formula designed to affect the bacteria that cause unpleasant odor is changing.

It, almost certainly, won’t harm you but it may be ineffective, it’s probably best to throw it away and invest in a new one.
