Native vs. Schmidt: Which is better? Let’s face it, we all have to go out every day, no matter how recluse or introverted we are.
Sometimes I find myself staying indoors for hours only for some event to call for my attention outside.
As a result, I need something that’ll not only keep my underarms dry but also free from odor.
Native deodorant is a popular choice but so is Schmidt’s. Both have been around for quite a while and promise to keep your skin odor-free for the whole day.
They claim their deodorants are aluminum-free and packed with natural ingredients that are friendly to even sensitive skin.
Which makes the better product? And which one should you choose? Let’s find out in this short review of both brands.

Native vs. Schmidt’s Deodorants: Overview
Native Deodorant
Native offers its deodorant in three different categories. You can choose from their regular, plastic-free, and sensitive deodorants.
Under each category, the brand offers a host of deodorants with different scents.
So, if you have a sensitive skin type, you want to go for the sensitive ones. It’s the same scents in each category, however, there are slight modifications.
The ones designed for sensitive skin don’t have talc, phthalates, aluminum, baking soda, or other substances that can cause your skin to react.
All of the plastic-free versions of the scents are packaged in non-plastic material.
So, if you don’t like your deodorants or body spray to be packaged in plastic, you can choose from here.
Conclusion
Lastly, the regular deodorants have similar ingredients as the others but this time are formulated with magnesium hydroxide and baking soda.
In terms of price, most of the deodorants are priced similarly. Most come at $13 excluding shipping fees and tax.
And if you want to save, you can also bundle a few of the deodorants together, which will reach a lower total price.
Schmidt’s Deodorants
Unlike Native, Schmidt’s doesn’t categorize their deodorants but you can choose from sticks, jars and sprays.
I personally like this arrangement more than that of Native.
It’s cleaner and easier to choose from. If you love your products in jars, you can get them in jars instead of the usual sticks that are very common.
Looking at it, it seems that all of Native’s deodorants come in sticks, which is a little limiting.
Another advantage of Schmidt’s is that you can go with deodorant sprays if that’s your thing.
However, it’s worth noting that Schmidt’s has only a few in both jars and spray versions.
There are only three for each, when I checked while you can choose from 16 different scents if you’re buying the stick version.
Also, the ones that come in stick seem to be the cheapest as they are only $9, excluding shipping and tax while Jars and the spray version costs around $10 and $11 respectively.
Conclusion
When you consider the price, you can easily see that Schmidt’s is a little cheaper than Native even though it’s not much.
But if you’re buying in a bundle, the differences may be significant. There seem to be thousands of reviews on the brand, with the majority being positive.
So, the brand must be doing something right for them to have so many positive reviews.
That also points to the fact that they are more popular than Native, but sometimes you can’t always go with the reviews.
Not all customers that buy a product will go back and leave a review.
However, the more review (and positive) there is on a brand, the easier it is to determine the legitimacy of the brand and its products.
Now, let’s compare a similar scent from both brands.
Native Rose vs Schmidt’s Rose/Vanilla Deodorant
Native Rose Deodorant
This deodorant is supposed to keep your underarms odor-free all day long.
The brand also states that it has a light, non-greasy texture that doesn’t leave any residue behind.
The deodorant, like other Native deodorants, is free from aluminum, talc, and phthalates.
Instead, it comes with shea butter, which helps soften the skin, and coconut oil, which keeps the skin hydrated.
Schmidt’s Rose & Vanilla Deodorant
The brand says that it will help keep the skin smooth and dry, free from odor for 24 hours.
Thanks to ingredients like cocoa and shea butter, the skin shouldn’t protect the skin from excessive sweating but also reduce the odor that is a result of that.
It’s cruelty-free, vegan, and doesn’t contain artificial fragrance. If you’re looking for the most natural of the two, then you should check this out.
The Native Rose Deodorant is made with probiotics, coconut oil, shea butter, baking soda, tapioca starch, and ozokerite.
On the other hand, Schmidt’s Rose/Vanilla Deodorant is formulated with vitamin E, natural fragrance, cocoa butter, baking soda, arrowroot powder, and shea butter.
As you can already imagine, the Native deodorant is more expensive than Schmidt’s.
I also like the fact that it doesn’t have any fragrance in it, which can cause irritation in some people, especially those with sensitive skin.
Schmidt’s also contains alcohol, which a lot of people like to avoid in their products.
I personally don’t like to see alcohol on the list of ingredients when I’m buying too, but it all comes down to personal choice and preferences.
Similarities Between Both
Fortunately, both Native and Schmidt’s deodorants are cruelty-free, which makes them a good option for animal lovers and those who love to keep their personal care products plant-based, cruelty-free, and vegan.
Both brands are available for purchase directly from the official website as well as from reputable resellers like Target, Amazon, Walmart, etc.
Native vs. Schmidt’s: Final Verdict
If I had to choose between both brands, I’ll go with Schmidt’s as it’s cheaper.
I usually like to buy products like this in bundles, so that can save me quite a bit of money on each order.
I also like that I can choose the deodorant in a jar or stick or spray bottle, depending on where I want to use or store it.
You’re only open to a stick or spray from Native.
And since they offer similar features (both are cruelty-free, aluminum-free, and almost entirely made out of natural products), I’ll decide based on the advantages one has over the other.
